A Thousand Names

A Thousand Names is not a mezcal; it is a fair and collaborative initiative to honor the many master mezcal makers who can no longer call their mezcal “mezcal.”

This product is the result of the transmission of knowledge and education regarding respect for nature, and it is produced for special occasions such as 15th birthday celebrations, weddings, or patron saint festivals.

The popularity and trend surrounding mezcal have led to regulations and rules regarding the designation of origin that have severely harmed these original master mezcal makers and their families, who in many cases have stopped producing their ancestral product or have been forced to sell it at unfair and unsustainable prices.

“Mil nombres” is a non-commercial exchange initiative; these bottles have been designed without labels to facilitate a barter system with the families and master mezcal makers. In this way, they honor their product and have the freedom to add their own information—such as the master’s name, the alcohol content, and the product’s origin— and never, ever using the word “mezcal.”
